A Good Life

A Good Life  © Michael Tomlinson

While I watched you paint a tree, one leaf at a time
Every pretty color in the world was
Raining down and lighting in your eyes
And I saw you slowly recall when you were a child

And you started breathing in and slowly breathing out
Subtle as a whisper first, then louder as you finally let it out
And on those memories there rose your forgotten song

And it made me think about things we seem to lose
Some disheartened part of us that we forget to use
Until we slowly forget our song
So how do we recall this stolen lullaby
Fading in & out & just beyond the veiling of the mind
Where the soul of music can be found

To all you souls who’ve lost your hope
When the world you dreamed about is falling down
Would it mean a thing if you heard me sing
Of all the ways that a good life could be found
In the glowing embers still alive?

So how do we recall th is stolen lullaby
Fading in and out and just beyond the veiling of the mind
Where the soul of music can be found

To all you souls who’ve lost your hope
When the world you dreamed about is falling down
Would it mean a thing if you heard me sing
Of all the ways that a good life could be found
To all us souls who’ve lost our hope
When the world we dreamed about is falling down
Would it mean a thing if we all would sing
About the ways that a good life could be found
In the glowing embers still alive?
