These Are Heaven

These Are Heaven  © Michael Tomlinson

These are heaven
Slowly rolling days, early in the spring
The way you let your body lean on me
Like ivy on the wall, the pleasure on my face
Every time you lightly call my name

We were climbing up Telegraph Hill
In the morning of the day
San Francisco weather was cold and gray
I thought I heard them call wild parrots in the sky
And I turned to see the wonder in your eyes

But what I most remember that I never told you, darling
In that old blue theater
Coleman Barks and Rumi married us that night
We are Love Dogs

And I sang a lonely song on the highway
That I'd written long ago, but I could not get through
You saw a light in me and you loved me true
And all my songs flowed into you

I was in New Hampshire, falling heart over head for you
Calling out your name through my open window
From Vermont to Maine, we are love

And these are heaven
Slowly rolling days, early in the spring
The way you let your body lean on me
Like ivy on the wall, the pleasure on my face
Every time you lightly call my name
