Breathe It In

Breathe It In  © Michael Tomlinson

My friend, I hear a lot about you all the way out here
We used to tell each other every little tear
And every dream we dreamed
These days, I spend a lot of time just thinking back on them
Sweet times when we were just as close as friends
Could ever, ever be

I still sing a gentle song for everybody, everyone
And I trust it will find it’s way to you
All the love that ever was is still right here
And we only ever had to breathe it in, breathe it in

Somehow, I get by without my favorite human near
But if you wait to long for me to even hear
Your voice flow over me
I’m dry, like lupine in the arid autumn light
After summer rains have left the ragged skies
To quench some poor lost soul

I still sing a gentle song for everybody, everyone
And I trust it will find it’s way to you
All the love that ever was is still right here
And we only ever had to breathe it in, breathe it in
